SYNOPSIS:
A Linux desktop essential course is designed for beginners who wish to achieve maximum productivity at home or office using Linux based desktop application suites for common office productivity tasks.

SUITABLE FOR:
Desktop users with windows experience or anyone who is new to Linux OS for office automation like word processing, spread sheet, presentation and communication. SOHO users are intending to migrate to Linux environment.

PREREQUISITES:
User level experience with Windows or any operating system, user of GUI environment like mouse and menu operations and desktop applications.

DELIVERY :
At the end of course, you will be familiar with Linux desktop GUI tools and office productivity applications like word processing, spread sheet, graphic design, file management, Internet & Mail accessing.

COURSE CONTENTS:

Linux Desktop Basics

  • Installing new software on Linux
  • Using of a dual booting system
  • Basic command on the shell
  • Text editor on the shell

The X window system

  • Configure and customize your Linux desktop
  • Introduction to GNOME, KDE and other desktop / window manager
  • GUI Utilities
  • Open Office
  • GIMP Image Editor
  • Create, manipulate and save graphics files with the GIMP image Editor
  • Multiple Desktop / Window Manager
  • Create files with Cross platform compatibility such as PDF

Configuring Internet access

  • Browsing Internet on various browsers
  • Configuring E-mail client, Evolution, Kmail

DURATION

  • Full Time - 2 Days - 16 Hours
  • Part Time - 2 hrs / day - 16 Hours, Monday - Friday
